Unbrotherly Love - Chapter 5

Takumi was astounded. He distanced himself from Hoon and Jae-Hyun, an acquaintance they made there, and grew closer to Mr Kang. The agent who scouted him a couple of days ago, was now standing in front of him, with a joyful smile captured on his face. He was accompanied by three men, all very polished and fashionable. They were in branded suits, each one of them embracing a different style approach. One of them seemed younger than the others, but no less dominating or wealthy. Mr. Kang spoke first.

"Takumi, allow me to introduce Mr. Choi, Mr. Park and Mr. Kim. They are the bigshots in our company. Your future in our agency lies in their hands".

Takumi bowed and greeted them with respect. Mr. Choi, the youngest, greeted Takumi with a smile. He stood above 1.90 metres tall and was extremely muscular. Takumi felt small in front of him, despite the fact that he was 1.86 metres tall.

"You are very handsome", the young entrepreneur spoke with apparent admiration in his voice.

"Thank you", Minjun replied. He hoped the three men could see past his face.

"And very soft-spoken", Mr. Choi added. He had a mischievous smirk and kept staring at Takumi, as if trying to see into his soul.

"Let’s see how you do in the competition, Takumi-ssi", Mr. Park added to the conversation.

Takumi looked at the agent with a hint of surprise in his glance before returning his attention to the older man who had just spoken.

"What do you mean, Mr. Park?" he asked him. Takumi tried to keep his voice soft and steady, despite the turmoil of emotions running through his body.

"They are here to see you. If you win the competition, they will give you the opportunity to audition", Mr. Kang hurried to answer.

"If I win? But this is the largest dancing competition in Seoul. Many professional dancers compete to establish a name for themselves".

Mr. Kim, the third man who had not spoken up until now, said in a harsh and stern tone, "If you think you can’t do it, we’ll take our leave. There is no reason to waste out time".

"No, no! I can do it! If I win, you will allow me to audition, right? "

Mr. Choi agreed with a smile.

"Then I will undoubtedly win. Please have a sit and enjoy the performance".

Before his turn, other dancers performed their own dances, a variety of styles and stories vying for the judges' attention. The three men took notes on several of the other contenders.

Takumi was aware that what the three men asked of him was nearly impossible. He mentally prepared himself for rejection, after his conversation with Mr. Kangs on the phone. Putting to use his strength of character, determination and discipline, he attempted to control his mind and mentally conduct his dance making some final notes. He would never give up on his dream. Even if he didn't win, he hoped to impress everyone with his dancing and generate prospects for himself. Worst case scenario, he would live at Hoon's house until he reached adulthood. There are numerous methods to earn money online and build a brand, so he felt optimistic about the future. Takumi firmly believed in himself.

The competition was fierce, with every dancer showcasing their talent and fighting for their dreams. When Takumi’s turn was up, the spotlight pulsed with excitement as he stood center stage. As he concentrated on the beat throbbing through his veins, he could only hear a distant buzz from the audience. Takumi wasn't just a dancer; he was a storyteller. His body became an extension of the music, intertwined with emotions through every expressive leap and passionate twist. His unique style, a captivating blend of contemporary fluidity, hip-hop's raw energy, and the sharp angles of dubstep, mesmerized the audience. Takumi poured his heart and soul into the performance, weaving his body movements with passion, precision, and a hint of boldness. His final leap defied gravity, hovering suspended for a thrilling moment before landing with a bang. Silence descended, followed by a tidal wave of applause. Even the judges, who remained stoic throughout the battle, exchanged amazed glances.

Takumi stepped up and bowed to the crowd. The three men, together with Mr Kang, were looking at him with apparent enjoyment. Regardless of the outcome, Takumi was delighted with their expressions of approbation and the audience's applause. He gently turned around and stepped into Hoon's arms, where he was joyfully greeted.
"I'd be astonished if at least five agencies don't contact you tomorrow. Takumi, you were mesmerising. I'm so proud of you".
He thanked his hyung before grabbing a bottle of water to drink.
"I'll add sexy to your list of positive traits," said a voice he had heard for the first time that night. Mr Choi closed the gap between himself and Takumi.
"What are your thoughts, Takumi-ya? Did you perform well enough to win?"

Takumi took a minute to observe the man in front of him. The way he carried himself around him made Takumi believe he was interested in him more than just as a potential trainee. Something about the way he spoke to him seemed very suggestive. Was he trying to seduce him, or was this a little game to entertain his boring life? Takumi took a step backwards with the pretence of putting down the empty bottle of water.

"I did well by my own criteria. Whether I win or lose, that is not up to me to decide. Thank you for the compliment and your interest, Mr. Choi". He spoke softly but set a boundary between them.

The young entrepreneur seemed to enjoy Takumi’s reaction to his presence and appreciated his response to the flirtation. Shortly after, the other three men joined them. They spoke for a while about the competition, while waiting for the results to be announced.
