Vicious Love - Part 2

I wasn’t one to back away from a bet or avoid punishment when lost. My voice became significantly lower when I ushered my next words – a stolen whisper. “I mean, please just say yes. I’m not really interested. I lost a bet. We don’t even have to go out. It’s just for my friends to hear”. I waited for a couple of seconds but no answer was given to me, so I tried again. “Please boys. Just a word, that’s all I’m asking. Just one of you to say yes! I can’t lose face in front of my friends”. My voice could barely be heard.

The same boy from before chuckled.

“Sure thing, kitten. I’ll go out with you”. His voice was loud enough to be heard across the café.

“Thanks. I owe you one…”

“Alex”

“Thanks again, Alex! If you ever need anything from me, just let me know. I’m Sophie by the way”.  I turned my back on them and started walking towards Rhea.

“Actually, I wouldn’t mind going out with you as well, beautiful. Who knows, maybe you’ll like me more than Alex”, smirked one of the other boys.

“Me neither! You’re stunning” said another.

I turned towards them again and giggled. I didn’t make out which of the boys made the comments, but I silently thanked them.

Gosh, it was such a long day! It was a pleasant surprise to find myself home without any delays thanks to the fast pace of time that passed by. My home is a small, rented cottage, approximately 10 minutes away from the café. Although it’s quite old, it’s well reserved. The modest yet fully equipped kitchen and the front porch with its flower pots make it homey and inviting. As soon as I entered, I took off my clothes and headed to the bathroom. It became somewhat a routine to have a long bath, infused with salt bombs or essential oils, after work. As a result of taking warm water with vanilla essential oil, I was always able to relax my sore muscles, which helped me sleep better.

As I was laying in the hot bathtub, my mind wandered back to my family and home. What would dad say if he knew I found myself in the royal pack, trying so hard to keep my secret? How would the boys react if they found out what I was? For a reason I couldn’t decipher yet, I was drawn to them. Not romantically, for sure. But I had a feeling of safety when I was with them. Would they still like me if they knew who I was or would they call me a monster? Would they sell me out for their own advance? Not that I will ever let them figure out my true identity. Not after what has happened with my family. In order to protect everyone I must remain unnoticed and solitary. I finished my bath, brushed my teeth, and got myself in the comfort of my king size bed. When will the place next to me in bed be occupied by a gorgeous man that will love me to death? When will I meet my mate? The mere thought of him got me excited. My mind wandered about which species he would be, how he would look like and what position he would have. Please let him be near me, handsome and powerful. Powerful enough not to be killed by those who are trying to capture me. If he is not, please Gods and Goddesses spare him the pain of meeting me. With these thoughts Morpheus took me in his arms.

The next morning, Alex and the rest of the boys visited the café once again. A girl was with them this time. My surprise at seeing them on consecutive days was due to the fact that they had never visited twice in a row before. They sat quietly at the same table as yesterday. One of them was reading a book, while the others were pl With my brightest smile, I approached them.

“Good morning, Alex! Good morning, boys, and girl!”

“Morning, kitten” Alex ushered, still half asleep.

My loud laughter echoed at the half empty cafe. “Someone is still asleep”, I commented.

“No surprise there. They were out all night, working. I’m Jen, by the way. This idiot is my twin brother, Luke”. He pointed at the dark-haired, dark-skinned guy. His jade green eyes contrasted his skin perfectly, making his looks unique and electrifying to say the least. Jen looked very much like Luke, except she was thinner and very feminine. They shared the same eyes and mesmerising glance.

“The name is Sophie, nice to meet you, Jen. You too, Luke”. Luke shook my hand and Jen gave me a hug, which I reciprocated wholeheartedly. She seems nice. I felt the rest of the boys staring at me so I turned to face them. “We haven’t been formally introduced, right?”. I extended my hand to the Hispanic boy.

“Dr Alastair Hutton”.

“Oh, a doctor? Good to know. Hope I never need your services, doctor!” I giggled. “No offence”.

“None taken, beautiful”.

“You look so much younger. I thought you were all college students”.

“Boy, do they wish they still were”, Jen intervened. “They drank themselves throughout college”. I laughed teasingly.

“Not you, Alastair, I hope. Would be bad if everything you know is based on hangovers”. They all laughed. A sense of satisfaction ran through me. Them laughing was something I wanted to hear regularly.

There was one more boy that I had yet to put a name on. “How about you, handsome? What’s your name?”

“Asher. Nice to meet you, Sophie”. He had the looks of a soccer star athlete. Big built, tan skin, dark brown hair, blue eyes. Gorgeous from top to bottom. I smiled at him and repeated. “You too, Asher. What can I get everyone?”

They gave me their order and I left them to enjoy their morning coffee.

The next day, they were at the café again. This time just Alex and Luke. It was a normal day, just like any other. The café was crowded that day. It was busy from the beginning of my night shift and everyone was enjoying themselves. A big company of vampires and demons were hanging together and having the time of their lives. Happy and satisfied faces were all over.

Suddenly, there were people shouting outside the café.
