Vicious Love - Part 3

A mother with her two young children entered the café and approached Alex quickly. She was hurt. Her children were crying and she was whispering the situation to him. His face changed to a really serious one, an obvious contradiction to Alex’s usual playful self. More customers entered the café looking worried, some of them yelling for help. I couldn’t see what was going on. My heart was in pain for those who were hurt. I wanted to go out and help but couldn’t. What if someone realised I am supernatural? What if I changed at the sight of horror and blood? Better stay inside and help the wounded, is what I thought. There were children and women hurting, so I brought the first-aid kit and tended to their injuries. Goddess and Goddesses! It took so long to help everyone. Before I was done, Alex returned. Honestly, I ran to him and hugged him. All day, I was hoping for a hug. What was happening was unbelievable. Who would dare attack the royal pack? Why would they hurt the innocent? Alex’s question surprised me.

“Are you helping everyone on your own? Didn’t Alastair come to take care of them? You should get some rest, kitten. It’s been four hours since the attack. Honestly, I didn’t expect you to be here when I was returned”.

“Of course I’d be here”, I answered half insulted. “I’m not heartless enough to leave those in need. I’ll go once Alastair is here, OK?”

“Let me call him. He should have been here hours ago”.

Four days have passed since the incident and the boys still haven’t returned to the cafe. It made sense in a way, since there must have been a lot of damage control to be done from their part. On the fifth day, the four boys came to see me, acting like nothing had happened.

“Hey, my boys! What’s up? What can I get you? What happened that day? I seem to be unable to get a clear answer from anyone”.

Alastair opened his mouth to answer, but the fifth boy of their group interrupted our conversation by making an appearance. Upon entering the café everyone turned their heads to look at him, some with lust, others with fear and the rest with envy in their hearts. He was enthralling! His tall and muscular body, along with his fair hair, big blue eyes and thick lips could captivate every woman who laid their eyes on him. Power was radiating off him, which led me to believe he was higher in hierarchy than the others. He had royal and Alpha blood in him. He was a lycan, that much was obvious, but he didn’t give the vibes of a King. Perhaps he was one of the princes, or the royal beta. He walked slowly and proudly towards his friends. Even though he was polite to everyone who greeted him, arrogance dictated his behaviour. His stern glare, his proud way of walking, his body stance, his facial expressions all radiated superior bloodline, exceptional body strength and power position.

Moving closer to the group to get his order, I felt peculiar, impatient and excited. When our eyes met, my heart started thumping wildly in my chest. Mate! He was my mate! Oh no. How will I keep hiding if I’m mated to a royal and a lycan? So many years have I been waiting for him, and fate chose to present him to me at the worst time possible. My cover would be blown away and even he wouldn’t be able to save me. I wanted to ask about his order but nothing would come out of my mouth. We just kept staring at each other. I tried to control my hammering heart and the wetness between my legs, something that proved impossible. He could hear my heart racing and smell my arousal, which brought a smug grin on his face. Yet, when I thought he would claim me, like every wolf does when they find their mate, I was surprised to see discomfort and resentment in his glance. He made no movement to close the distance between us. Whether he struggled to keep control of his lycan or to stay away from me, I wouldn’t know. He kept a blank expression on his face. Alex coughing brought me out of this trance.

“Can I get you something?” I asked my mate hesitantly.

“Not only do I get a mate that resembles that bitch, but she’s a lowly human as well. Thanks a lot Moon Goddess. Just what I need. More trouble to handle”. He whispered his words so that I wouldn’t be able to hear them. I wouldn’t if I were human. But I wasn’t. And it hurt to know that he thought I wasn’t good enough for him. That I was a problem he had to handle. A burden to his perfect world. He flat out rejected me! My heart clenched from pain, but I couldn’t let them realise I was supernatural. I sneezed twice as my eyes got teary.

“I’m sorry. It’s my allergies again. I forgot to take my pills. Perhaps I will need your assistance after all, Doctor Alastair”, I laughed as naturally as I could. Turning towards my mate I put on my biggest smile and asked “Excuse me? I didn’t get your answer”. He replied a blatant nothing and left.

“OK. Someone’s in a bad mood”, I forced a giggle.

The boys kept looking at me with curiosity and excitement. Jen came close to me and hugged me.

“What’s the hug for?”

“Nothing, nothing. I just… I’m here for you, OK?”

“OK… Thanks”. It sounded more like a question.

Before leaving, Jen and Alex both asked for my phone number and I reluctantly agreed. I wanted to keep my distance, but apparently it wasn’t happening. We exchanged numbers and agreed to go to the movies when I had my next day off. Hopefully, I will think of an excuse to stay away from them, until I figure out my next move. My mind is screaming at me to pack my things and leave immediately, before they get involved into the mess that has been following me. My heart, however, is ordering me to stay by my mate. To fight for him and win his heart.
