Vicious Love - Part 4

Heading home, my mate occupied all my thoughts. I reminded him of another woman, one that he despised. One that he called a bitch. He called me lowly and trouble. My heart hurt. He rejected me, he kept our bond a secret, he was dissatisfied with me. As soon as my home’s door closed, hot tears started dropping from my eyes. For what seemed like hours I cried for his rejection. Eventually, I had no more tears to cry and calmed down a bit.

I had to speak to Jonah. Only he could help me cope with this situation. I picked up my phone and dialled his number.

“Hey, sis”

“Jonah” I sobbed. I couldn’t stop myself from crying again.

“Soph? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

“He rejected me, Jonah. After all these years, I’ve finally found him and he flat out discarded me!”

“Who? Your mate?”

I explained everything that has happened in detail, from the moment I met the boys to my mate denying me.

“That fucker! Just cause he’s a royal he thinks he can insult you? I’m coming to get you! I’m gonna hit him when I see him ”.

“I can’t come back with you, you know that”. I sighed with frustration. “Not after what has happened. I don’t want you to get hurt because of me”.

“And you think we are just gonna stand by and watch you waste your life isolated, just to save our own asses? Come back, Soph. Please. We’ll protect you!”

“If I return, I’m putting you in danger. Losing mom almost drove us crazy, Jonah. How are we gonna deal with another member of our family getting hurt? Not happening. I’m not coming back”.

“Then leave. He’s not worthy of your time, effort or tears”.

“He’s my mate, Jonah”. The mere thought of giving up on him brought me goosebumps.

“I know. You know I do. But he… he hurt you at first sight. What will happen later on?”

I crawled under the cosy wool bed sheets of my bed. I had to take my mind off him. “How is dad?” I sighed. The second male in my life that has disappointed me.

“Furious. You did run away just before your engagement, you know? With a death threat over your head”.

I giggled. “Dad’s gonna kill me when he sees me, huh?”

“Oh, yeah”.

“Well, I don’t feel sorry for him! He had it coming for trying to marry me off to some lord. Like I would ever! Not my fault I’m an independent young woman who wants to spend her life with her true mate!” Jonah chuckled and I stopped for a bit. “Not that that’s happening now. Anyway, how did dad take my disappearance?”

“He knows we’re in touch so… he didn’t have a heart attack, if that’s what you’re asking. He worries about you”. I knew. I am his only daughter after all. His princess, as he likes to call me. He would always spoil me with everything I wanted, no matter what. My brothers tried to put some sense in him, but he never stopped spoiling me.

“How about our brothers?

“Gosh, they are annoying!”. His answer placed a huge smile on my face.

“So the usual?”

“The boring AF usual, may I add. When are they gonna find their mates and bother them instead?” His words hit me hard and my eyes got teary. He realised what he had just said right away.

“Soph, I’m sorry. I didn’t think… I didn’t mean to…”

“I know, brother”. After a short-lived silence I resumed our conversation.

“Do they ask about me, Jonah?”

“You really don’t know how much your brothers love you, do you? They have been nagging me non-stop about their baby sister being on her own ever since you left. Christopher has even tried to fool me into giving him your location. Sly bastard!” Jonah said giggling.

“I miss you all very much!”

“Then come back, Soph. Please!” His cries made my heart sink. “I’m sorry. I said I ‘d respect your decision and I will. If you need me for anything, let me know. As for your mate, give him some time, if you think he can handle the situation with hunters trying to get you. Otherwise, let him be. Maybe rejecting you was the Goddess way to protect him”. His words stuck with me. I guess my prayers have been answered. My mate will be safe away from me and I will keep everyone protected. Soon after, we said our goodbyes and hung up. My brother’s voice filled me with comfort. Our closeness made my heart a little lighter, light enough to fall asleep in a dreamless slumber.
